I know we usually talk about vibrators here but you know what goes hand in hand with vibrators when it comes to happy, healthy, comfortable sex stuff? Lube! Today we’ll look at the lube options and what they can do for you!
Personal lubricants general fall into one of 4 categories: water-based, silicone based, hybrid, and oil-based. So what does that mean? What’s the difference? Fear not, we’re getting to that:
Water-based– Condom compatible, budget friendly, plays well with toys, water-based lube and widely available, water-based lube has a lot going for it. The downside is that it can get sticky.
Silicone– based– Silicone lube is a workhorse. It lasts a long time, it only takes a little to get the job done, It doesn’t get sticky, it can be used in water, and it’s condom compatible. Now, while silicone is awesome because it sticks around for a long time… it also, well, sticks around for a long time so if you can’t grab a shower post-sex you might want to stick with water-based. Silicone lube can also damage silicone toys (depending on the purity of each product). Do a patch test on an inconspicuous area of the toy if you are concerned.
Hybrid– Kind of the best of both the water-based and the silicone worlds. Hybrid lubricants are usually water based with just a touch of silicone. They are known for providing all the benefits of water-based lube with the long-lasting benefits of silicone.
Oil-based lube- Incredibly slick and long-lasting oil-based lubes certainly get the lube job done. They tend to not be great for vaginas but are fantastic for anal play. Oil can degrade latex and polyisoprene condoms so stick to nitrile or polyurethane if you are practicing safe sex.
So, that, folks is lube! Go forth and get slippery!
