I was wandering around the web the other day and something that was posted on the New York Times pages caught my eye. It was a notice that Dell Williams, the 92 year old, New York based sexual health pioneer, passed away, so of course I had to take a moment to read it.
Dell founded what is known as the first, female focused sexual health store, Eve’s Garden, back in 1972. It was in New York City and believe it or not, is still open today. What got my attention while I was reading her interesting life story is why she opened Eve’s Garden. It’s because she wanted to buy a Magic Wand without feeling embarrassed by her purchase! Can you believe it?
Dell, like so many other women, had learned it was great for sore muscles but the Magic Wand could be used for so much more. Back then, a woman going to buy a Magic Wand massager was often asked what she wanted it for! Dell changed the world and acknowledged the importance women’s sexual health by creating Eve’s Garden. There, in her wonderful store, she sold many great products, including the Magic Wand.
So I proudly raise my Magic Wand to you, Dell. Thanks for being such a pioneer and making it easier for women like me to buy our own Magic Wand. May you live forever in our hearts!
